Markinch’s history

Markinch is a village in the Rural Municipality of Cupar No. 218, about 68 kilometres north of Regina. Settlers named it after Markinch, Scotland.

The first European settlers in the district were Paul Blaser and Tom Bradwell, who arrived in 1900. The village itself was established with the coming of the railway, which reached Markinch from Brandon in 1905. By 1906 or 1907 about 40 people lived there.

Markinch incorporated as a village on February 16, 1911. Its population reached its height in 1921, when 175 people called it home. Highway 22 was completed in 1930.
